Wielka Brytania zatwierdziła Molnupiravir – lek przeciw COVID-19

Lek ma być przyjmowany doustnie dwa razy dziennie przez pięć dni przez osoby. Przeznaczony jest dla osób u których przebieg COVID-19 ma łagodną do umiarkowanej postaci, czyli nie wymagające hospitalizacji.
„Dzisiaj jest historyczny dzień dla naszego kraju, gdyż Wielka Brytania jest pierwszym krajem na świecie, który zatwierdził lek antywirusowy przeciw COVID-19, który może być przyjmowany w domu. Pracujemy pełną parą w rządzie i razem z Brytyjską Służbą Zdrowia (NHS), aby określić plany podawania molnupiraviru pacjentom tak szybko, jak to możliwe” – oświadczył na nagraniu na Twitterze brytyjski minister zdrowia Sajid Javid.

Molnupiravir – lek na COVID-19 w globalnym procesie zatwierdzania
Molnupiravir jest obecnie w trakcie procesu zatwierdzania przez organy regulacyjne w USA, Unii Europejskiej i w innych krajach. Jak wskazują lekarze, tabletka, która redukuje objawy i przyspiesza powrót do zdrowia, może być szczególnie istotna w przypadku ludzi nie reagujących dobrze na szczepienia. Może też okazać się przełomowa, zmniejszając obciążenie szpitali, co pomoże ograniczyć pandemię w biedniejszych krajach ze słabymi systemami opieki zdrowotnej. Wzmocniłoby to również dwutorowe podejście do pandemii – leczenie za pomocą leków oraz zapobieganie, głównie poprzez szczepienia.
Lek zacznie być podawany jeszcze tej zimy
Początkowe dostawy leku będą ograniczone. Merck ogłosił, że może wyprodukować do końca roku tabletki wystarczające do 10 milionów cykli leczenia. Wiele z tych dostaw zostało już zakupionych przez poszczególne kraje. W październiku brytyjski rząd ogłosił, że zawarł umowę na tabletki wystarczające na 480 tysięcy cykli leczenia. Spodziewa się, że molnupiravir zacznie być podawany jeszcze tej zimy.
